Special Events Staff

The Hunter Museum of American Art seeks a customer service oriented, team player to ensure guest satisfaction during special events and to assist with set up and break down of Facility Rental events, interact with and help guests and caterers during private and Museum events, create and serve beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) to event and Museum Guests, and helps with food service needs for Museum or event guests.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist with set up and break down of tables, chairs, bars, and other equipment used during special events as needed.
  2. Serve as a special events bartender for private and public events.
  3. Use events pull sheet to properly pull bar product for private and Museum events. Employee is responsible for recording accurate amount of bar products taken and returned from catering kitchen after Museum events.
  4. Uses customer service skill to ensure guest satisfaction.
  5. Interacts with and assists guests during private events or Museum internal events.
  6. Works well and safely with others, i.e., event guests, staff, caterers, vendors, and bartenders.
  7. Cleans and places materials for recycling in the proper containers and takes trash to the dumpster a the end of each event.
  8. Ensures safe working conditions and procedures for staff, guests, and vendors.
  9. Works closely with caterers, vendors, and fellow special event staff to ensure quality and adhesion to Museum guidelines during all events.
  10. Solves any problem that might occur during an event at the Museum.
  11. Interacts and shares information with our clients to ensure an educational and enjoyable experience.
  12. Maintains clean and sanitary conditions of facilities before, during and after special events.
  13. Works with the Education Department and various other departments to assist with both internal and external events.
  14. Maintains good hygiene and a professional appearance.


  • ABC Card/Beer and Wine
  • Valid driver's license
  • Understands event setup sheets detailing client needs.
  • Ability to take direction and redirection.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Customer service (IE restaurant industry knowledge/training).
  • Knowledge of catering and bartending at special events.
  • General housekeeping and grounds keeping skills.
  • Primarily nights and weekends required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, and establish effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the Hunter Museum.
  • Bartending, craft cocktail, and batch cocktail experience preferred.
  • Some experience in a related field preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects will be required.
  • Inside and outside conditions, this may include heat, wet, or cold
  • Stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing (ladders), banner installs requiring heights and reaching above the shoulders

Hourly, Part-Time; Must be able to work a flexible schedule of primarily evenings and weekends, with occasional holiday hours. Must be available for all mandatory events each year (Hunter Underground, Sundresses at Sunset and Spectrum). On call availability for emergencies required.
