The Facility Technician has an important "hands on" role in the successful functioning of the Hunter Museum Campus and is responsible for assisting in the operation of all facilities. This position will focus on Maintenance/Facilities operations and objectives and will work with other departments in the coordination and evaluation of museum operations and to ensure proper maintenance and safety procedures are implemented to safeguard staff, visitors and museum property.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the maintenance of the buildings, grounds and systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, etc.) to ensure a comfortable, problem free environment for employees and guests
  • Perform daily inspections of museum buildings and grounds; report and complete maintenance/repairs
  • Ensure all operations are in compliance with local, state and federal codes, regulations and standards
  • Inspect the Caf daily; ensure cleanliness at the start of the week and immediately following an event
  • Assist in the management of our recycling program
  • Manage work orders, housekeeping checklists and other facility assignments
  • Assist in inventory management and purchase supplies/equipment as needed to maintain the facility
  • Maintain good working relationships with vendors/contractors; manage maintenance contracts for landscaping, HVAC systems, water treatment, boilers, water pumps, sewage pumps, life safety systems and elevators
  • Work with the Facility Manager and Assistant Manager in adhering to the annual departmental budget
  • Assist the Facility Manager and Assistant Manager with facility related capital projects, exhibit renovations and building modifications
  • Perform work in a manner that fosters the museum's mission, core values and service standards
  • Assist with opening and closing of museum as needed
  • Assist with managing prox card assignments for new employees
  • Other duties as assigned



  • High school diploma or GED; some college in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years' progressively responsible experience or education in related field, i.e., building and facilities management, residential or commercial construction, general contracting, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of methods and techniques of the trades (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) is essential; knowledge of facilities, maintenance, and safety preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in the many phases of facility operations
  • Experience using tools and performing general repairs and maintenance
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access, technology, audio visual and ipads
  • Proven ability to lead through example and positive attitude
  • Good communication skills that ensures effective and positive communication among staff and guests
  • Must have car and valid TN Driver's license


Working Conditions

Frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing (ladders), banner installs requiring heights and reaching above the shoulders and lifting up to 80lbs.  Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects such as furniture, file cabinets, equipment, boxes, etc will be required.


Part-time, hourly; must be available to be on-call after hours to respond to emergency situations
